Meet Our Staff

Wee Ones was created by Jennifer and Jeff Reed in 2000. The first issue was uploaded in March, 2001. A lot has changed since then and the magazine has grown. Read more about the staff below! Special thanks to Chris Cockcroft for our caricatures!

Introducing Poetry Editor- Kim Hutmacher

Kim Hutmacher has always had a passion for word play and delicious language. She brought that passion to her role as poetry editor when she joined the staff of Wee Ones in August 2005. She delights in reading poetry that paints vivid images in her mind. She revels in finding the perfect poems for each issue, and her favorite part of the job is sending those acceptance letters!

Kim has three ebooks published with A to Z Kid's Stuff. They include Poetry Play for Preschoolers 2003, Picture Book Play 2004 and Children's Poetry Party 2005. She's also had over 60 pieces of fiction, nonfiction and poetry accepted for publication in magazines such as Babybug, Ladybug, Hopscotch and Wee Ones and anthologies published by Gryphon House and Pearson Education. Kim has taught creative writing classes to children in grades 3-5 through her local community college youth enrichment program and presented workshops for adults sponsored by the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, public libraries and local art councils.

Kim adores small town life and the adventures and challenges that come with homeschooling her three children. When she's not writing or editing, Kim likes to get lost in a good book, help her husband remodel their 100-year old home, take long walks and watch Nascar races. More than anything, Kim enjoys spending time with her husband and three children- taking day trips to historic places in and around Illinois, playing in the park or simply sitting on the front porch enjoying the view!

Introducing Art Editor and Webmaster- Jeff Reed

Do you love to work on the computer and be creative? So does Jeff. He's the "art" guy behind the scenes. Jeff finds illustrators to make Wee Ones extra special. Original artwork is a must for any good magazine and Wee Ones works with some extraordinary talent! Jeff also uploads the website and makes sure everything is going okay. He deals with technical problems and solves a lot of things that can go wrong. And, if that weren't enough, Jeff creates the CDs Wee Ones sells.

For fun, Jeff likes to build furniture in his woodshop. He also likes to play paintball with his son, Eric, fly airplanes and fix up his old house. He used to fly F-14's in the Navy. Now he also works with the government keeping America safe.

Introducing Editor - Jennifer Reed

Jennifer and Jeff created Wee Ones in 2000. They noticed that there was not much online for kids to read. What better way to encourage reading than to bring modern technology and literature together- online! Jennifer is the editor of the magazine. She works with authors and illustrators, gathers material, organizes it and makes sure everything is as it should be.

Wee Ones isn't the only writing job she has. She is the author of 20 books with more to come. Her first picture book, The Falling Flowers was published in 2005 by Shen's Books. She also teaches at the Institute of Children's Literature and the local high school. She teaches writing and is yearbook advisor.

For fun, Jennifer likes to spend time with her family, gardening, walking along the Susquehanna River, and traveling. Really, her job is her hobby! She enjoys writing and sharing her love of writing and reading so much, that it never feels like a job! Visit Jennifer's website at www.jennifer-reed.com.
