Day At the Beach
By Brenda Reeves Sturgis
Sculpting sand, and making moats, and filling plastic pails,
Tapping, brushing, packing tight,
And placing napkin sails.
Digging deep, and working hard, and sitting in the sun,
Ocean sounds, and gulls abound,
We’re having tons of fun.
Buried underneath the mound of wet and heavy sand,
Peeking up and watching waves
Of swaying grassy land.
Picnic lunch, with soda pop, and sandwiches to munch,
Watermelon, seeds to spit,
And crispy chips to crunch.
Sun is setting, tide comes in, my castle’s washed a way.
Wave goodbye, to all my friends,
It's been a perfect day.
